The MIDI protocol, being one the most used among professionals of the musical environment, especially composers, have become very popular since the beginning of the new computation technologies nearly 10 years ago. Nowadays, it is widely used as a tool either in instruments, control and musical virtualization. If you are new in the musical environment, probably, you have heard about MIDI.
Why is so widely used?
The MIDI protocol provides portability and control when performing a recording as well as maintains control during a live musical performance. MIDI is commonly related with musical instruments, but, we must understand that above other definitions, it is a protocol.
How can we use the MIDI protocol on our Music?
Personally, during my recording sessions, I use it as a medium to make the musical composition easier. Moreover, it can be used as a control both for instruments and other applications. For example, synthesizers used by guitars use the MIDI control. On other instruments, as MIDI Guitars and MIDI Keyboards, we can achieve a communication between the instrument and the computer, where we can capture the notes directly in a form of a musical score using dedicated software.
Conclusion
As every new technology, the MIDI can be used as a tool. It’s widely used on musical aspects, and on other applications. However, we must not forget that the true nature of the musician arises from the art made by ourselves.
